May 14, 2008ville valo interview
this is from the july/august issue of rockoon translated by wickedgirl666 from buzznet
"sucide is always an option. Not the best, more the worst, but it's good to have it. " "Would you care for another cup of coffee? I also have some more French toasts for you." Again a fresh smell of coffee came through the comfortable darkened breakfast lounge of the Hyatt West Hollywood at the Sunset Boulevard and mixed with the wonderful scent of the warm toast, while soft music filled the comfortable rooms and created an ambiance which actually didn't match a Rock'n'Roll hotel. And though we were in that special hotel in Los Angeles, in which already Jim Morrison, Led Zeppelin and The Who did some legendary parties. Televisions flew through windows, motorbikes drove through the lobby and even some songs got written here. But today it was pretty quiet in those legendary halls and excitement was only found by the attendant music-journalists who specially came from Germany to listen to the successful Finnish band HIM's new album in the afternoon. Punctually at 2.00pm "HIM – mommy" Silke Yli-Sirniö congregated everybody in the lobby to go to the Paramount Studios in Hollywood. Pretty unimpressive from the outside and actually only identifiable with a sign from the Paramount Studios parking lot they've been found to be very impressive and roomy in the inside. Some gold and platinum records decorated the walls from the reception area to the recording rooms in the back part which are only lighted by dimmed light and candles, where HIM-Manager Seppo Vesterinen, Producer Tim Palmer and of course HIM-leader Ville Valo were already waiting to present the finally completed masterpiece. Quickly some chairs were put for the journalists and manager Seppo already ran busily through the rooms, while Ville got – anxious waiting for their opinions– to the with a glass pane shielded recording room and Tim happy and proudly presented the new songs. Songs like Bleed Well and the acoustic Song Or Suicide sounded, while Venus Doom, Dead Lover's Lane and Passion's Killing Floor rocked the studio so Tim couldn't help himself playing the air guitar and in the next moment already rock on with the non existent drums or write down the song titles so everybody got the right track list in their notes. Arduously first impressions got written down, which seemed in view of the diversity of the songs almost kind of back braking. After an hour there was only one thing with which everyone agreed: Venus Doom is a damn rocking record, which's success seems to be preassigned. Not only Tim Palmer seemed to be happy with the first reacts, also Ville, who already wanted the HIM-mommy to finally tell him what they think about the new album. A little bit tired from the party of last night but obviously relaxed he also was with the interview: Ville Valo: Thank you very much for taking some time to get here. Rockoon: My pleasure! Although the flight was really hard, cause I don't really like flying. VV: Oh, I hate it too! I'm always afraid of it. Mostly I take some anodynes and try to sleep. We actually have to fly all the time. The rest of the band loves the flying. They always call "now we're crashing!!" and I:"AAaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!" Not very calmative. Rockoon: So it's good that you flew alone this time. How long have u been in LA now? VV: I'm here for like one and a half week and I'll stay a few more weeks. Tim and I mixed the album here. He actually even started to before I arrived here. But we know each other already pretty good so it doesn't take a lot of words between us. It gets changed a bit here and there but then it's exactly the way we want it. Rockoon: But the album got recorded with Tim and Hiili Hiilesmaa in Helsinki, right? VV: Yeah, in Helsinki. Rockoon: Was Tim in Helsinki for the first time so you could show him a little bit of the city? VV: Oh no, he already was there a couple of times. But this time it was like, I slept and he partied. We also recorded the album when we were all together. We wanted the album just to be finished and the last time it was pretty stressful because the whole traveling costed a lot of time and energy. And it wasn't really easy this time anyway because Burton, our keyboarder, also got a baby. Rockoon: oh really? I'm sure that's exciting for him. VV: yeah. Although I haven't even seen it yet. But they're very happy. I mean, it was born in October. Rockoon: The baby got born in October and you still haven't seen it? VV: well yeah, we all work out very well and we like each other a lot but you have to keep something private for yourself. We spend a lot of time together, like, in the studio, in the bus, when we're on tour… I think I haven't seen Olivia – the daughter of our guitarist Linde – for almost a year. It happens. When you have your break, you have your break. Then you don't think of the band anymore and you need some time for yourself. Well at least we try to take some time for us. Rockoon: Tell us something about the new album. The title, Venus Doom, is it something like an advancement of Love Metal? Venus is the goddess of Love and Doom could describe the way to heavier and darker sounds. Is it like this or more like a word game? VV: It's not an advancement of Love Metal. Is has to do with demolition and is a bit like the Kali-symbolism. Kali is the more-armed goddess of the Indian mythology and means demolition but also regeneration. Something has to be destroyed, so new things can be created. That's what love means to me. Rockoon: And what does love exactly mean to you? VV: It kills you. It rips your soul. And you're going to be reborn if you love again. Rockoon: Interesting thought which could be also taken for other subjects. Like the aspects of your older albums, which almost have something destructive or at least don't sound that complaisant like at the time they were created. For example, you said after the release of Dark Light, that this kind of music is exactly what you always wanted, and after recording Venus Doom you said, that there were too many things happening on Dark Light. VV: Probably almost every musician says something like this, right? It's like you just found the perfect trousers or the perfect woman. So you shouldn't misunderstand it. I'm still very satisfied with Dark Light, just like with the albums before. Rockoon: So it's perfect in the moment of creating, because it's exactly what you're feeling at that time. VV: That's the way you could word it. We always give our best and cause of that we always want more. It's very important to advance. Rockoon: You said that Venus Doom is a lot more heavy and darker, and that's true. What was the reason for choosing this direction? VV: Heavy music is fun! I also had some hard times privately and so you can hear it on the songs. Private is of course relative, cause I don't really have a private life in its actual meaning. I write about personal emotions in our lyrics and so already tell them to public for years. Rockoon: What do you do to improve you musically? For example, the singing or the guitar playing? VV: Actually we don't really think about that. Rockoon: So you just play and sing? VV: Well, you're always trying some new things. I've never sung as deep as on the new album. My voice isn't like Robert Plant's [Led Zeppelin]. It's as deep as Peter Steele's from Type O Negative. But he didn't sing so deep anymore for quite a while, so, I'll probably beat him in that now (laughs). He's actually one of my idols. I love his voice and so I'm trying to advance my own voice. And I think that's also the way you should work and live your life – as good as possible and always trying to reach the best possible. Rockoon: Tim told about that the acoustic Song Or Suicide was recorded in a hotel room. VV: That's right. Song Or Suicide is probably the saddest song I've ever written. The recordings weren't easy too, because the transport and the buildup of the equipment we needed took a lot of time. We recorded it in the hotel in which I'm currently in, just at the Sunset Boulevard. John Belushi died there, Neil Young recorded there and also Anthony Keates sang his song parts there. It's a hot place, but it really got an impressive past… Rockoon: I heard that Kiss Of Dawn is dedicated to a friend. VV: Yes it is. He hung himself. Rockoon: Oh. I think that's nothing of which you like to talk about. VV: That's no problem. What the hell is death? He was a very good friend of mine, a very talented young fellow, with which I passed some beautiful times. One day his girlfriend called me and told me that he's dead. Things like that unfortunately happen. It was his decision and I hope it was the right for him. Rockoon: What do you personally think about suicide? Is it really an option? VV: Suicide is always an option. Not the best, more the worst, but it's good to have it. But it's surely nothing, of which I'm considering right now. Rockoon: fortunately! And there isn't - at least not for public – a reason for it visible. What about the cooperation with your new Label? A good and especially personal teamwork seems to be very important for you. Did you find this for you? VV: Absolutely. We signed in by Sire Records in New York. A small label that also got The Ramones, Madonna and Depeche Mode, latter for America, under contract. It's working pretty good, cause we're working with people with which we get along very good. It's a small label within a big one, so everything goes on very personal. Rockoon: You also created a label by yourself. Did you already get some bands signed for Heartagram records so far? VV: No, not yet. We'd really like to do that and we already talked with a few bands, but not more. We don't really have enough time and probably also not the required know-how to coach the bands so far. I think we're not really ready for that now. Rockoon: Do you already have some special requirements for these bands? VV: Not really. It's more about friends and music. Also the music direction, although we'll probably work more in the area of Rock, doesn't really matter. Rockoon: A totally different question. How would you explain, that lots of singers, which say they're actually shy, to which you count as well, seem to search for the midpoint, cause they're regularly doing gigs in front of a huge audience? VV: Hm... That's a hard question. I can't tell you because I don't have an explanation as well. What I know is that I love to write music. That's what I really like, also at home for myself. It's a bit like writing a diary. Rockoon: Finally, do have a good suggestion for a place to go out here in LA? VV: Oh, well you should go to the Rainbow. That's the legendary bar directly at the Sunset Boulevard, in which also Lemmy [Motörhead] hangs out all the time. He even got his own Flipper there. So, it's really worth going there!

May 7, 2008VILLE VALO TALKS ABOUT WOMEN (OLD INTERVIEW)Ville Valo talks about women Q: What's in common with the women you've ever loved? A: I've loved only one woman in my life. There have been crushes and they've been very different, some have had a regular daytime job and some have been artistic type. One thing in common is long hair. Short hair isn't sexy or feminine. But of course there are exceptions. I like sensitive and strong women. A woman should be extremely patient with me because half of the year I'm away from home. I'm so jealous of a person that an open relationship doesn't work. And I've never had one-night stands. Q: How has your image of women changed since your teenage years? A: When my friends started to get interested in girls, I concentrated on music. I thought girls were scary and kinda useless. I don't think like that anymore. But my image of women changes all the time. Women surprise me every day. Q: What has the life as a rock star taught you about women? A: That women can be vulgar beasts, just like from some rock legend. Because of my status lusty, high-heel chicks are trying to drag me to bed. They're trying to bolster their self-esteem. But I'll be strong. Q: Lies that women believe? A: "Our band has to practice!" No, I'm pretty direct: if I want to stay in a bar with my friends or just be alone, I say it. Q: How does a woman change when getting older? A: Everyone's got their own way. I know 50-60 year old women who are younger than teenagers; their whole being glows. Living the life routinely can kill you at a very young age, a little bohemianism is good. Of course physical changes are unavoidable. Debbie Harry and Faye Dunaway are good examples of beautifully ageing women. I understand plastic surgical acts, not the absolute value. But they're OK if they bring self-assurance to somebody and that way make people glow. It seems like every other woman has a complex about breasts. However, I like small boobs. Q: What in a woman you pay attention to? A: I always notice long hair that's in a good shape, angel curls. I don't like hydrogen peroxide blondes. In some level I'm also a shoe fetishist. If the most beautiful woman in the world had awful shoes, it'd be a major turn-off. And it bothers me if a woman can't walk naturally. The voice is also very important. The catwalk people and a face in a magazine don't necessarily impress me. You can't build a relationship only on physical qualities. Q: What kind of woman's behaviour makes you confused? A: A woman can go to the bathroom and leave the door open but a manly, an overflowing sexuality in a conversation makes me blush. Only one sentence can completely ruin my interest. I got really confused at a gig when some lady grabbed between my legs. Q: What's your worst experience with a woman? A: All the unpleasant situations have only educated me. Even fighting is natural, although it is a pain in the ass. And it doesn't mean that after the first argument we'd break up. One horrible experience was when as a teenager I was at a party and I ended up making out with my crush. I had drunk a few beers too much and I threw up in the bed. I don't think it was a right way to show my affection. It happens. Q: If you were a woman, what would you be like? A: I"d spend a hell of a lot more money on clothes than I do now. Guys only have boring suits, jeans than don"t fit well and ugly underwear. I"ve sometimes bought women"s pants (=trousers). As a woman I could spend money on useless things also. Spending is wonderful. Although I"ve always wondered about how women spend so much money on their appearance. I don"t understand these terrible expensive facial lotions that you put on your face at night. It"s useless. You can take care of yourself by not smoking and not drinking too much alcohol and by doing sports. Q: What makes a woman un-erotic? A: Moustaches and long armpit hair doesn"t turn me on. Perfumes are also un-erotic, as is make up that is too strong. Nothing is more erotic than the smell of skin and it"s softness. Touch. But eroticism (is that a word?!) depends on the case. If the right woman carries her hair rollers the right way with a cucumber mask on her face, it can be the sexiest thing in the world. Q: What"s the worst way to hurt/offend a woman? A: I don"t know about worst, but it"s offensive to ask a woman"s age. Age seems to be a taboo. I think it"s interesting to find out how old people are. I also have a bad habit of being ignorant, which causes hurtful situations. I don"t always necessarily notice if the other person needs or wishes for something. I have a moody and selfish personality: I prefer to take than to give. I don"t always remember to phone when I"ve promised to do so. Q: When is a woman at her most wonderful? A: When she is sleeping. Unprotected, no roles. Q: What is a wise/smart woman like? A: One who doesn"t go out with me. I"m completely incompetent of taking care of someone. Wisdom is having found a balance and being at one with yourself and the world. I don"t know anyone like that though. Everyone has some kind of a battle going on. Q: What has been your worst mistake with your relationships? A: Not having a normal job and never being at home. It"s extremely difficult to maintain a relationship when you"re away half of the year. The phone is not enough. You can"t take your loved one with you to do nothing. Q: When do you find it distracting to be around women? A: If my honey is at a gig I"m doing, it"s distracting because the telepathy starts to work straight away. Also, writing songs is a sensitive moment. I listen to the resonance (<-- not sure about the word here) of the highest strings of the guitar and wait for those to lead me into something. I don"t want anyone to be near me then. I also don"t want to be seen when I"m looking at Internet porn. Q: For how long can you go without female company? A: Physically, for as long as it"s necessary. Women aren"t objects that you look at only on weekends. Q: What have your parents taught you about women? A: I"ve had a liberal upbringing. My parents' still being together is a good example. My mom is a pretty eccentric character. I"ve inherited her temper. She"s an organized hippie: free mind and ways, but she has the ability to work according to rules. She takes care of me, she still buys me pillows and blankets. If I"m having some kind of relationship blues, we can talk about everything openly. Just like I can with my dad. I"ve gotten my verbal acrobatics from my dad, and that"s how I win people over. Q: What life advice about women would you give to your own son? A: Look at your dad and do the opposite. Treat women better than your dad does. Take showers and change your underwear that can impress women. Q: What about to your daughter about men? A: I"d be an overprotective father who wants to see every single potential boyfriend. To my teenage daughter with raging hormones I"d say that sex is not love. Q: What couldn"t you forgive a woman? A: If she forgot my birthday. Seriously: I haven"t come across a situation that extreme yet. You must be able to forgive mistakes and inconsideration. I could even forgive cheating, but something as cold as that would make me paranoid about my own abilities. After that it might be hard to be in physical contact with that lady. The relationship would die out. So far this hasn"t happened. Q: What"s the biggest compliment you"ve gotten from a woman? A: That despite my moody pseudo-artistic nature they still want to hold me again and again. It"s impossible to repay a compliment like that. I often hear something positive about my singing voice and that I look better in reality than on TV. But those compliments don"t really do anything for me since I know that I"m a good singer. It feels good if they compliment my songs. Q: When is a woman most scary? A: In the morning, if she"s still got last night"s make-up on her face. Q: In female company, when do you feel like a real man? A: What is a real man? Those words remind me of a macho man who boasts with his physique or wit. Q: What do you talk about with women? A: A lot of the same things I talk about with men. On the tour bus with the band guys I go to this Freudian anal stage, and that stuff I can avoid with women. But tour life isn"t normal life. Talking about fucking can be an enlightening discussion with a woman. Q: What words do you use most often when describing women? A: Whatever. I can call my female friends bitches or hags (note: it"s hard to think of correct translations for these words). It"s a bit harsh, but it"s meant in a humorous, friendly way, not as insults. Q: Is there something about you that is true, but that you wouldn"t want to hear a woman say? A: I think it"s all been said out loud. In that way I"m decorated with bullet holes. I"ve gotten remarks about being narrow-minded and stubborn. I"ve also heard that in many ways I"m a terrible person, and that really hurt me. When I was younger, I took myself too seriously, now I can laugh at my weaknesses. Even in serious situations I get a bit tongue-in-cheek. Q: What do you need a woman for? A: I need soul mates so that I can be who I am, naked. It"s not a question of gender. I want there to be someone who picks up my heavy, bleeding heart and takes it somewhere safe and warm. Q: How do you know when a woman is pretending? A: In her eyes, words, actions. I"ve developed a sixth sense, I can read people. Everyone fakes. And there"s nothing wrong with it, as long as you don"t base your whole life on it. Sometimes you must fake, because this hollow and hard world is full of hunter animals who can rip you apart. You need to watch out for your heart Q: Can a woman be treated like a man? A: Women don"t have any special privileges in this sense. You can just as well ask a woman for a beer or to a car show. Q: Is there something that a woman can"t manage without you? A: I believe that I"m a good listener. I also like to do physical things even though I"m not very good at many of them. I can hammer nails into a wall or pour plumbing cleaner down the drain, but these are things that girls can do also. Q: What personality trait can"t you stand in women? A: When they"re too proud or self-assured. I also don"t like it when they do nothing: I love people who are constantly doing things. Q: Have you ever cried over a woman? A: I don"t cry a lot, but the last tears I shed were over a relationship problem. I started to doubt whether I had given my heart to the right place and if I had in a way worn out a dear person and I should just let her go away. These issues of doubt and insecurity are heartbreaking. Q: How would you describe a Finnish woman? A: Familiar and safe. I can describe my feelings best in Finnish, which makes it a lot easier. Q: Are women deceitful? A: Both men and women cheat. I can"t say if men cheat more than women, it depends on the individual. Q: What"s the most difficult thing about living with a woman? A: I find it difficult to live in any kind of commune because I like to be alone. I find it restraining to be with someone all the time. I like to get involved in the meditative feeling of making music whenever I want to. That"s something that can"t be done nine to five, because it"s not routine. It"s routines that make it difficult to live with someone. It"s also difficult to close a door behind you knowing that the next time you open it is four months away. Music takes away time from the first love. Right after a long tour it"s hard to get comfortable at home because that"s the time when I need to be alone. In hotel life the service is good and your mess is cleaned up for you, and it"s easy to get used to this, and this creates problems at home. In my wildest years I maintained this illusion that everything is easy. All I need to do is play guitar in my underwear and go for a beer with my friends. But at home my clothes and CD"s have always been lying around on the floor - I find them more easily that way. Q: Is it possible to be just friends with a woman? A: Of course. You don"t always need romance. I have a lot of female friends. Q: Is there something that you wish women remember you by? A: The smell of my skin

FEMALE FANS VERSUS GROUPIES (FANGIRLS)A female fan may think that a front person, guitarist, drummer, et al, is sexy and attractive but generally likes a band because they enjoy the music of said band. A groupie ( fan girl), is fickle, as she stops listening as soon as a hotter, newer front person arrives on the scene. A female fan may think the singer is drop dead Hot, but realizes that the chances of meeting said heart throb are slim and has a real love life A Groupie ( fan girl) envisions marrying and having kids with said idol--many harbor obsessive fantasies that border on the psychotic... A female fan goes to the show and enjoys the concert for the concerts sake, especially if the band kicks ass... A Groupie ( fan girl) screams "I LOVE YOU ( insert name here)" every five seconds, cheapening the experience for all who hear her... A female fan is happy for their band member of choice when they fall in love... Groupies (fan girls) get all pissy, saying catty things about a woman they know nothing about while lamenting, "What does he see in her anyway!" A female fan know where the music ends and realty begins... Groupies ( fan girls) get too caught up in the "idea" of someone they do not know personally, to the point where they miss out on real life opportunities with flesh and blood nice guys... Now, i am not saying it isn't good to fantasize about a hunk--it is normal to lust after a hot celebrity, but when our celebration of our idols have them wanting to hide under a table for fear that some chick with a pair of scissors is gonna cut their hair ( as what happened to Ville) my dears, we go a bit far...lol... PASS THIS ON TO REAL FEMALE FANS ( AND FAN GIRLS WHO NEED A CLUE...)

January 11, 2008MORE VILLE VALO INFORMATIONName: Ville Hermanni Valo DOB: November 22nd 1976 From: Helsinki, Finland Height: 5ft 11inches Relationship: Engaged to Finnish model Jonna Nygren until recently. Facts: Ville and pro-skater Bam Margera (pictured together in last 15 photos) are best friends and Bam has directed many HIM music videos such as ‘And Love Said No’ and ‘Buried Alive By Love’. Ville recently said he sees Bam as a brother. In English Ville Valo means William Light. Ville is pronounced Vill-uh. Ville’s younger brother, Jesse, is a professional boxer. Ville recently said his fiancée is one of the worst girlfriends he has ever had. She punctured his eardrum earlier this year when she screamed at him for leaving her to go on tour. Ville used to smoke 100 cigarettes a day. He now smokes 60. Ville was arrested in February this year for threatening his neighbour and resisting arrest. Ville’s neighbour had been spreading rumours such as he and Jonna were regularly taking drugs and causing disturbances. This then led to Ville and his neighbour brawling in the streets until the man’s wife phoned the police. The neighbour is now being charged for slander. Although Ville used to take and loves cannabis and cocaine, he says that he tries to stay away from it because he knows it is bad for him and could take away everything HIM has achieved. Ville hates Avenged Sevenfold and when their management asked HIM to tour with them, they declined. HIM are the first Finnish band to have a Number 1 single outside of Scandinavia. Ville says his first crushes were on Madonna and David Hasselhof! Many people who have interviewed Ville say he is the nicest man they have ever met. He’s always honest and when one interviewer forgot their coat, Ville gave them his for their whole stay in Helsinki. All the women who work with Ville and HIM are said to be very loving and caring towards Ville and say he always stands up for women if someone is disrespecting them. Ville says that none of the members of HIM have been in the same place for more than 6 weeks since they became a band 10 years ago. Ville has 11 tattoos including a ‘J’ for Jonna on his wedding finger and Edgar Allan Poe’s eyes on his back. Ville can also play drums, bass guitar and the violin. He plays drums in HIM guitarist Linde’s other band Daniel Lioneye. Ville’s favourite alcoholic drinks are Snakebite and Absinthe. When asked if he was happy, Ville said, “I’m happy with a lot of things in my life but I wouldn’t say I’m a happy person. I’ve been fantasising a lot about suicide recently, I feel like that painting ‘The Scream’ where my life is in turmoil and I’m left unfulfilled.” Ville’s also said he’s considering taking a break from HIM after constantly touring for 10 years, to work part-time in his dad Kari Valo’s ‘Adult’ store in Helsinki to get some normality in his life. Ville has suffered from asthma since he was 6 years old. When he forgot to take his medicine in his teens, he was hospitalised for 2 weeks. ‘Join Me’ is not about suicide. It is a modern day tale of Romeo and Juliet. The song was blamed for a few suicides in Europe until people realised what the song was about. HIM have covered many songs such as The Ramones ‘Poison Heart’, Neil Diamond ‘Solitary Man’, Blue Oyster Cult ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’, Black Sabbath ’Hand Of Doom’ and Chris Issak ‘Wicked Game’. Ville won many music awards last year (2005) which included, ‘MetalHammer Icon of the Year’, ‘Hottest Male’ in three rock magazines, ‘Best Vocalist’, HIM for ‘Rocksound Best International Band’ and ‘Best Single’ for Wings Of A Butterfly. In 2004, he was awarded the very prestigious MetalHammer Golden God award which has also been awarded to Lemmy and Marilyn Manson. HIM have now released 6 albums entitled, ‘Greatest Love Songs…’, ‘Razorblade Romance’, ‘Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights’, ‘Love Metal’, ‘And Love Said No’ and ‘Dark Light’. Their most successful album, Razorblade Romance, was certified double-platinum . Although HIM’s manager Seppo Vestirenen manages The Rasmus, the two bands are not friends. Ville said, “Maybe it’s a coincidence The Rasmus became darker after we became successful. Maybe. I’m not a fan.” Ville broke up with his fiancée recently after she began taking drugs again and became too needy and jealous towards him. Although Jonna is moving out, Ville is buying a new house too so as to have a fresh start. They were together for 6 years and Ville and his previous girlfriend Susanna were together for 7 years. HIM’s 2006 UK tour was postponed until April after guitarist Linde fractured his wrist while walking back on the icy roads from their gig in Finland at New Year. All 10 dates sold out almost immediately and a few venues had to be upgraded due to the demand. The tour has also taken them to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Japan and America.

VILLE VALO FEARS GROUPIESFinnish rocker VILLE VALO is so terrified of sexually predatory groupies, he sometimes wishes he is gay. The HIM frontman is stunned by how forward and liberated female fans are. He says, "The overt sexuality of groupies shocks me. "It feels odd that people think they can just sleep with us. We actually think, sometimes, in the band, that it would all be a lot easier if we were all gay because what better than going on stage having just sucked each other off - we'd all be so happy. "But you know, hairy balls are not really my thing."

VILLE VALO DREAMS OF FATHERHOOD
HIM frontman VILLE VALO believes he has the qualities to be an excellent parent, but commitments to his band are preventing him from being a father. The Finnish rocker says the prospect of leaving his children at home while he goes on tour is delaying the baby-making process. He says, "I love kids. A lot of my friends have been having them. I think we have reached that age. "If I was a father I would like to be around for the kid and that isn't possible in the band at the moment as we're traveling so much. "I'd be a hell of a dad. I've got a good sense of humour, good music taste and I collect toys and cartoons

OLD VILLE VALO INTERVIEW
Ville Interview
(Interview suosikki 98) Ville Valo from the band HIM was laughing at many of the cards, that had arrived to the editorial staff of Suosikki during the weeks. He answered the questions giggling huskily but was also admirably straightforward. No matter if the questions were about his sexual likings, music or ways of life “I was expecting something much worse....” What were you like when you were young? -This is extremely difficult question to answer, you should ask my parents. I think I was pretty much the same I’m now. Only a bit more 80’s than now and more sporty. And not this tall, häh, häh, häh...I was just a regular guy, I went to school and so on. I was a little chubby. In some interview you told that HIM is more a rock – than a metal band. Is there going to be music similar to Hybrid Children and do you know the members of the band in question? -Firstly, I don’t want confine us to be a metal band for the rest of our lives. Rock-fans are more broadminded than metal-fans. -The guys from Hybrid Children are all good friends of mine and they’re extremely joyful company. I like their production, but we are not going into that direction. Besides I don’t think their music is rock, it’s more like metallic punk. Who makes the words in your songs and where does the inspiration come from? -Well, I have a fuc**ing short answer for this one: Me and women. Now that you have been successful, has there been any of those guys who “knock on the shoulder” and how can you distinguish them from “the real people”? -Ööö, ööö, well there has been those, but you can always tell the difference between them and the genuine people. And I don’t have anything against the backpatters. Finns just have this horrible habit that you can’t come and babble unless you’re really smashed. Girls are braver I think, and they have the courage to talk to me after just one cider. Why don’t you guys answer to our fan letters? -Well firstly, I have seen some of these letters drifting somewhere between the recording company’s papers six months after they were sent. We don’t have a fan club. But we have the net site, where we do go and answer questions. The address is by the way www.heartagram.com What do you think about Cradle of Filth? -I’ve seen both of their two concerts in Finland and I really like their music. Two years ago in Ilosaari –rock festival we got drunk together and me and their drummer sang loudly until our throats hurt. What make are your underwear? -Usually Björn Borg or Boss – they’re good-quality and lasting. Black boxers. Where do you live and how? - The district of people with golden teeth, that means Eira in Helsinki. Alone in a very small one-room flat, which is full of instruments and stuff. Where does the family name Valo (= Light) come from? -From my father’s side...I don’t know. We don’t have many relatives in Finland. From my mother’s side my roots come from Hungary. How did you get to be interested in music? -I saw a picture of Gene Simmons from Kiss with blood dripping from his mouth and he was spitting fire. I thought that if I start to play music my mouth too will automatically start bleeding. It hasn’t yet. Do you have any idols? -Kiss, the whole pop-production of 80’s, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Dingo and countless of others. After the concert in Rovaniemi there has been suspicions that you’re a bisexual. Is this true? -No. What is “the one thing” for you in sex and what turns you off? -Too much booze puts out the mood. Hmm,...there isn’t “the one thing” in sex. That’s why it’s so nice part of life, because there’s so many different sources of pleasure. Are you a single? -Yes. Do you believe in eternal love? -I don’t. I hope that there would be that kind of a chance. But if everything went always perfectly there wouldn’t be HIM and these songs. If Playgirl offered you a huge amount of money, would you be ready to pose naked? -Heh, heh, heh. Of course it depends on the sum, but I don’t have that much to show anyway. I think it would just be boring and it would lower the sales of the records. So I think I wouldn’t do it this time. Would Mr. Valo have sex with three 17- year-old girls simultaneously? -Yes. Can I order you for using for one night or is your calendar full? -It depends on who is ordering me. Do you consider yourself as a sex symbol? -Never in this world. It’s something that other people have made up and I don’t even think that it’s really flattering. Could you start dating with one of your fans? -No, I think it would be too awkward. I could date with a person who likes our music, but a fan would be too much. Do you have a favourite product in you dad’s shop? -Mmmmm, not necessarily. I use the condoms the most I guess. Where can I find you in Friday nights? -Where did this letter come from? From Espoo I see from the stamp. Well, what should I say...I’ll probably be home, I guess, heh, heh... Your dream woman? -Flawless. Have you always been this popular among women? -I’m still not very popular among women. I don’t know what’s the problem, but young women rarely approach me. I don’t consider myself as any kind of Romeo. I hope the things would be different, but I don’t need any constant praising from people though... When does your new record come out? - Early in fall 1999. If it doesn’t, I’ll go and punch the people in the recording company. Will there be singles before the next record? -Yes, the record is supposed to come out in fall of 1999 and the single will be made in late spring, in May. There should be a new piece and remixes from the songs on our first album. We should get out some kind of an EP, because I think it’s wrong that we have been quiet for so long. We should publish something every once in a while. Will there be different songs in the next album? -It’s going to still sound like HIM, but there will be new flavours. Why are you leaving the metal out from the next album? -Metal is boring, it drives people away from it. The next will be heavy but not metal. Why is HIM going to make a pop-album from it’s next album? -Heh, heh, heh. Who said it would be a pop-album? I have said it will be a rock album and it will be heavy, which in English is “heavy”. What are you going to do after the release of the new album? -We’re going to have concerts in Finland as long as people are interested and then we’re going to see if they’re still interested in us abroad. Then we’re gonna babble again in the pages of “Suosikki”, if Suosikki still is interested. The names and birthdays of the members of HIM? - Bass guitar, Mikko Henrik Julius Paananen, birthday in December. Guitar, Mikko Viljami Lindström birthday in August Drums, Juhana Tuomas Rantala birthday somewhere in the beginning of the year. The best things about HIM? -Honest Finnish attitude. Open-minded. Irrational. Varied. Hih, hih, hih... From your songs what is the most dear to you? -Probably the new songs at this moment. The most important from the others is “When Love and Death Embrace”, because it was the first song I ever made myself, that got popularity in the radio and elsewhere All the HIM’s recordings in order of releasing? -Fall 96 EP “Six-Hundred and Sixty-six Ways to Love”, “When Love and Death Embrace” – single, An album “Greatest Love Songs, volume 666” and single “Your sweet 666”. Why is there a hidden song on your album? -The point to the hidden song was that we wanted to make the duration of the record 66 minutes and 6 seconds. We had to have enough sixes, there’s nothing more into it. Bad humour, that’s all. Do you believe that HIM will be Fu**ing huge band, I mean will it be successful in abroad? -I don’t believe so, but I hope. Will you be in Nummirock- or Provinssirock festival in next summer? -We are planning to play only in one big festival. Now we’re going to see which one is more interested in us. What was in your bottle in Rantarock festival summer 1998 in Hyvinkää? -Some cheap half-dry red wine. When can we see your videos in Finland? -I’ve had the impression that they’re already showing them in Finnish television. What did you do before HIM? -I’ve played since I was seven. One time I was in seven bands at the same time. Is it possible that we could have a CD of HIM’s first products? -Yes, sometime. But we have so much unreleased material. The publishing depends on the recording company and when they think it would be right time for that. Viva recorded your Helsinki - concert in August. Is it possible to see that in Finland? -I doubt it, because Viva has the rights to that concert. Unless Finnish television wants to buy the rights to it, which I don’t believe. Your most horrible mistake in a concert? -I never make mistakes in a concert. Every burp in the microphone is supposed to be there. Singing badly is a mistake, but that almost never happens. Do the words of our songs tell from your personal life? -Yes. What does the black heart on your wrist really mean? -I’m not going to tell that. It’s too personal. But it looks good. ... What would you never, ever wear? -sweat pants, sweat shirts, jogging outfit, stocking cap, long underwear, cheap underwear Height, weight and size of shoe? Height: 184cm Weight: 69kg Shoe size: 42 I’m planning to drop my weight to 66.6 kilos! What do you think about body piercing? -If I had a body piercing I would probably take it on my private parts at “Prinssi Albert”s. But I don’t necessarily like piercing on men or women. I think they’re useless and boring. Do you have natural curls? -Yes. What does the tattoo under your belly button mean? -There’s the heartagram-symbol, which is a combination of a heart and a pentagram. Kind of a variation from the symbol, that represents the darker side of love on the cover of our CD. Do you have more tattoos and where? -One on my right wrist, one on my left arm...one on my...what’s this called? Lower abdomen sounds a bit un-glamourish. Do you love showing yourself off? -I like to be in publicity, but I’m not willing to run around naked. It’s nice if you get popularity from what you do, because permanence is important at this moment. It proves that we are not a falling star, but a steady band in the business of rock. What do the matters of spiritual world mean to you? Do you believe in afterlife? -No I don’t. When we die, we rot six feet under. If you stay home thinking about life after death, you easily don’t do what you could do already today. I’ve met people like this and they’re extremely boring. Why is there 666 in your songs and why do you tell about death if you’re not a Satan worshipper? -Does only Satan has self rights to death? Love is about small deaths all the time. 666 points at love’s more carnal and fixational part. What do you do in your free time and what are you passions? -Music and everything that has something to do with it. How do you relax? -I don’t relax. I’m extremely stressed workaholic. It’s hard to imagine you jogging or going to the gym to lift weights, but is that possible? -It’s not possible, because I don’t own any sweat pants and I cannot run, because I have exertion asthma. I hate all sports and big muscles wouldn’t fit in the image of this orchestra anyway. What is the most beautiful thing you know? -Friends. Family. I heard that you used to skate? -That was damn long ago, somewhere in the elementary school. I took part in Finnish Championships, but I was a beginner then. Later music took all my time and I haven’t skated in long time. Is Uncle-Ville going to die when he’s 27 like Jim Morrison? -No, I just changed my title to entertainer, so my goal is to get a job on a ferry sailing between Helsinki and Stockholm and sing tangos.

January 1, 2008you know whats the difference between MCR fans and HIM fans?HIM fans are alot nicer and cooler. they are also alot more mature. not that many physco HIM fangirls. thank God. i love MCR but most of theyre fans act like a bunch psychotic fangirls. all i see them do is bitch about lyn-z all day long and hate on her just because she's married to gerard. because of these so called "fans" i've started to give up on the band and i stay away of anything that's MCR related especially forums. everytime i try to say something positive about any of the gfs or wifes i get attacked. does anyone feel the same way? dont get me wrong there are still a few awesome MCR fans like millie, raven, and a couple of others that still give me some hope. its funny HIM fans are so nice and dont make fun and talk down to me cause they think they are better fans cause theyve know about the band longer nope they actually help me out and tell about the band and theyre favorite songs what they recommend. which is really sweet. i'm starting to agree with undead4gerard that the Black Parade has brought out the worst in the band but mostly the fans. i remember the first show i went to back in the revenge days when everyone was a family and help each other out. but now when i go to an MCR concert all i see is swarms of fangirls with "i love gerard" written all over them or with "marry me gerard posters" screaming out "Gerard fuck me!" can you believe that teenage girls screaming that out in a concert? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? thats what i want to know.

December 23, 2007VILLE VALO INFORMATION
Ville Hermanni Valo

December 21, 2007VILLE VALO QUOTESVille: I am insane because of this genetic disorder in me. I am half my mum and half my dad. My dad is a really calm, thinking type of person. My mum is the total opposite, very temperamental. She gets angry very easily. Me, I’m something in between. I am pretty calm and I have a fascination of pornography and old cars – I get that from my dad. My dad always told me that money doesn’t grow on trees, so I’m careful. My mum told me not to put my fingers in electrical sockets, so I did. (edit)
Ville: I didn’t have any role models really. My best friend was a dog. My mum and dad saved a dog from the gutter and that dog was my brother before Jesse was born. Sami was his name and he was my role model. The dog taught me how to walk, but didn’t teach me to shit all over the place. (edit)
Ville: I haven’t been baptised. My dad’s not in the church and is not a religious person. My mum is more spiritual - she does Thai-chi and goes to Stonehenge and things like that. I’m proud to be pagan. Finland is not really a religious country. I’m still looking for my god. (edit)
Ville: I’m only 26 – I don’t know anything about life yet. Life is like a puzzle and my pieces are spread all over the world. I don’t have a clue about how the final picture will look when I put all the pieces together. Life is short and love is over in the morning. (edit)
Ville: When I was a kid we played cowboys and Indians, and I always wanted to be an Indian when I grew up. (edit)
Ville: When I heard Elvis Presley, then I knew I had to do music. Music is my god, and is the only love that has never left me. It has always been there and is my best friend. (edit)
Ville: I’m perceived as being a miserable depressive Finnish c*** - and that’s exactly what I am! (edit)
Ville: (on his upbringing) It was really easy going. My parents were really easy on me. When I got drunk for the first time, they just laughed at me. They bought me my first bass guitar and have always supported my playing music. My parents are still together and my dad paid my rent when I first moved out of home. My dad has a sex shop and I think that is why they wanted to get me out of there. (edit)
Ville: (on his brother) When we were younger we fought like cats and dogs. My brother is now 19, he is a young man, and it has been excellent to go out and show him how to drink properly. I’m really proud of him. (edit)
Ville: (on his brother) He does Thai boxing. He won the Finnish championships twice, so he is pretty tough. He will make a good body guard one day. I’m really proud of him. (edit)
Ville: (on his school-days) I was a hell-raiser with really good grades. I fought a lot and I was pretty tough. But I was pretty easy going when it came to classes. I was really good at maths and biology. (edit)
Ville: (when asked what has had the biggest impact on his life) Probably the time I fell in love. I was pretty young, about 13 or 14, and she fell in love with my best friend and that was the time I wrote my first song. That changed my life a lot, well it changed everything. (edit)
Ville: (on the first time he picked up an instrument) I was about 2 or 3. A friend of our family always had these great parties. There was an Elvis impersonator at one and when he was singing I picked up a bongo drum and started banging it. (edit)
Ville: (on the first time he sang on stage) I felt like I was going to sh*t my pants. I was always afraid to sing because I was shy and I was meant to be the bass player. I’m still afraid but they make me do it. After a couple of beers, I’m fine. Before, when I played bass, I was at the back somewhere, laughing my ass off. Now I am up front! The first time I sang I wore brown bell bottoms, just in case I really did sh*t my pants. (edit)
Ville: (on when he chose music as a career) I didn’t really have an option. The only place I’d worked was my dad’s sex shop, and that was pretty sad and boring – all those w****** in raincoats left me seriously depressed. Music was the only other thing that I knew how to do, the only thing that I ever wanted to do. (edit)

December 3, 2007SLEEPWALKING PAST HOPE( I'M SO OBSESSED OVER THIS SONG LOL)
Sleepwalking Past Hope
I hid the keys to unlock love's heart To hold you in my sweetest pain and suffering Everything's unfair in our lust and war Redemption beyond right and wrong In our hearts love keeps sweet-talking to despair And goes on sleepwalking past hope All is lost in this war And all we can do is to wail and weep to the saddest song Sleepwalking past hope I unlit the light to embrace the dark To be near but not to turn into you my darling Forever we're lost in our souls' storm Reflections of each other's faults I gave up long ago Painting love with crimson flow Ran out of blood and hope So I paint you no more My hell begins from the 10th and descends to the circle Six hundred threescore and six And from there I crawl beneath Lucifer's claws just for one last kiss

Prince Harry snorts VodkaBOOZE-loving Prince Harry was blasted last night for snorting VODKA in a potentially lethal drinking game. Harry, 23, was captured on video as he inhaled a bottle cap full of the neat spirit through his nose while on holiday with girlfriend Chelsy Davy. In the footage ? seen by The Sun ? pals egg the royal on as he first takes a SWIG of booze, then SPITS it into the bottle top. Harry ? wearing a Crocodile Dundee hat ? covers his right nostril with his finger before taking a huge SNIFF through the other. He throws back his head to take the full “hit” of vodka ? and then reels in shock. The Prince is seen shuddering as his friends cheer. Last night medics and anti-alcohol campaigners slammed his antics. Professor Ian Gilmore, president of the Royal College of Physicians, explained that snorting alcohol meant it was absorbed directly through the lungs ? bypassing the liver. ____________ my thoughts on is......ummmmm....where is prince william to smack his little brother across the head!!! man the boy is mental maybe crazier than dahlia1940 right kitty???????
